Best Guitar On the Market for Under $1000 Jul 27, 2009
By Alex Moorman I consider myself a guitar connoisseur. I have owned multiple breedloves, a Brazilian rosewood dreadnought taylor, a koa tacoma parlor guitar, and a Yairi (Alvarez's top of the line guitar). When I was in college I made money buying and selling high end guitars on ebay so I had the opportunity to test out some of the best acoustic guitars on the market.
The creator of Breedlove Guitars started off working for Taylor guitars and eventually went on to start his own business. Though the Atlas series of guitars doesn't quite have the same quality of sound as some their high end guitars, it beats any guitar out there over $1000. As far as guitars made out of mahogany go, I don't think you'll find a guitar made by anyone but Breedlove that sounds so rich.
If you are interested in buying a more expensive Breedlove guitar (or any other type of highend guitar), I suggest that you avoid myrtlewood and maple. Myrtlewood and Maple, though they are hard woods, seem to be missing something. You can't go wrong with Indian Rosewood. It has an extremely rich and smooth sound. Koa is the most balanced sounding wood out there and I personally think it is the best sounding wood when plugged in.

Best Guitar So Far Jun 10, 2011
By Christina!
"Christina!"
I've been playing for seven years, and have owned 3 guitars (including this one) and tried at least a dozen others.
This one has proven to be the best out of everything. I have tried Taylors, Collings and Martins and Breedlove has never ceased to impress me.
This guitar is perfect, especially for a girl. Unlike the Taylors and other Breedloves which usually have a wide neck and deep body, this one has a thinner body and thinner neck as well. With my Yamaha, which had a thinner body, the tone was greatly affected but this is perfect for my smaller hands and shorter arms with no sacrifice of tone.
Even though it is smaller, it has deep, rich tones and an outstanding resonance. I'd rather play this through a microphone than a direct line because I feel that some of its clarity is lost.
The pickup is nice, however. You still get a beautiful sound. The built-in guitar tuner is so convenient, I'm not scrambling for a tuner when I need one.
Before I bought this, I knew that in order to get a beautiful sounding guitar, I would have to sacrifice its aesthetics, or if I wanted a beautiful looking guitar, the sound would be sacrificed. I sacrificed neither with this guitar. Although I did buy it for its sound, I have gotten so many compliments on its beauty - the abalone detail around the edges and on the fretboard. It is simple, but bold, especially under the right light. It has a nice, shiny, polished finish that has not affected its resonance at all.
As great as this guitar is, please do not buy it based on my review. I encourage you to play it before you decide it is for you. I've borrowed guitars and played them for weeks before deciding if they were for me. I played this one in the store for 10 minutes and walked out with it that very day. No guitar sounds exactly alike, nor does anyone like the same exact guitar for the same reasons.
If you are buying a guitar for its sound, you really won't know if you love it until you hold it in your hands and play it, so before you buy it from here, go to a Breedlove dealer and play one.

Unhappy Customer Jun 02, 2011
By Slayer I ordered this guitar because i heard good reviews on it and I have played a few Breedlove models before and liked them alot. The first guitar I ordered came with huge cracks all in the laminate on the top of the guitar. Returned it. The second one came and it to had serious problems. The guitar had the worst fret buzz on all the strings all the way up and down the neck. This is the worst fret buzz of any guitar I have ever played. Even some cheapy models. It needed some serious work by a luthier and not just a little truss rod adjustment. Maybe Amazon neds to find out how these guitars are being stored or who they are receiving them from, because I didn't get what I was expecting.
best guitar in sub $1k class Jul 13, 2011

I've had this Breedlove Atlas acoustic guitar for over 3 years now. I got it from eBay and arranged for local pickup (afraid it might get damaged during shipping). I got it when it was in brand new cardboard box. The case is immaculate, custom designed for this guitar (came with the bid). The fit is exact and there are 6 locks to secure it. It's on the heavy side with such wonderful protection. The guitar has rosewood back which is exactly what I was looking for. (Try searching for a sub $1k guitar with rosewood back, it's very hard to find.) I like the tonality of the rosewood for a thick midrange sound. I personally don't like the high crisp sound by maple or other similar woods. Usually only high end guitars, especially classical guitars, come with rosewood back. I believe this one by Breedlove is Brazilian rosewood, which is second to Indian rosewood, the best in class.
The pick up is wonderful. It has a tuner built-in. I'd prefer it to have a chromatic tuner, but this would do. The truss can also be easily adjusted for action. The finish is wonderful. It came with D'Addario strings, but I prefer Elixir, easier on the fingers and tone lasts longer. So I replaced it with Elixir in a couple of months. I've gone through 3-4 sets of strings in 3 years. Tuning is easy. It doesn't lose tune even if it sits in the case for several months.
I once compared it with a $2500 Martin and that also had a rosewood back. The sound from Martin did sound better, but the pick up sucked. It was too complicated and my friend didn't know how to use it. Also, he bought it refurbished and I later found the reason why. A couple of the frets were no straight so had to be sanded down (it was biting the string when you play, but if you adjust the action too high, the other strings are hard to play). Anyway, I like the QC of Breedlove. The quality, price and workmanship are all second to none in this price range. Not a single day of regret since I got it in March of 2008. Highly recommended.
Awesome Sound, Beautiful Guitar Sep 02, 2009

If you have played a Martin or Taylor, this blows them away. The sound is amazing!! I tested quite a few mid range (priced) guitars including Taylor and Martin, there is no comparison. Play a cord, or even 1 string, the sound seems to go on forever. I love Breedlove, I purchased the D25/SM as well, both are well made and sound great. The Sitka Spruce offers a full body sound, really pleasing ot the ear. My suggestion is Buy It, You will not be disappointed!! [...]
