4Splendid Guitar  Jan 02, 2011 By Jason No "J.No"
As a guitarist with a small budget for his purchases in guitars, I was thoroughly pleased with the Breedlove Passport C250/CO. For the past few years I've been using the Big Baby Taylor which itself has a wholesome sound due to its dreadnought body design. I was greatly surprised that the Breedlove Passport C250/CO, with its smaller body, could rival this depth in sound. The quality of the sound is superb, although I am not a fan of the strings that come with the guitar. The guitar itself is actually surprisingly heavy due to the dense wood used (Ovangkol). However, I am not displeased with the weight; it feels strong and sturdy rather than the thin wood used for the Big Baby Taylor I've used.

What must be said, however, is that the color in the picture of the guitar is deceptive! The guitar is actually much darker than the wood displayed in the picture. The ovangkol is also much darker, although the picture shows that the color seems to be light and the same color as the front of the guitar. Although this disappointed me a bit, it grew on me within the first few days.

Overall great quality guitar that I recommend anyone looking great sound quality for a reasonable price!

(OH, and if you plan to purchase this guitar, I suggest you add to your cart a sturdy case because I wouldn't trust the gig bag provided for my travels with this lovely Breedlove guitar! And while you're at it, add a nice strap because it doesn't come with one!)

5Underrated Guitar  Aug 24, 2011 By WendieseL
This is easily one of the best guitars around the 500 dollar range, TRUST ME, I kid you not. The shape of the sound this wood and design produces is not only tasteful but tempting as well. Actions are great, size is near perfect if you're not a huge person. Buy this guitar to add to your collection because of its distinction among the other brand/wood guitars. Cedar/Ovangkol fills in the gap of Rosewood and Mahogany.

4Great fingerstyle guitar for the money  Jul 08, 2011 By Jerome N. Scott
I have owned this guitar for a little over a year now and have found it a wonderful addition to my collection. I play fingerstyle and so often in open tunings that I usually play a gig with two or even three guitars to eliminate awkward tuning transitions. I have used this guitar for low C, DADGAD and, currently, standard tuning. This guitar has a solid western red cedar top which, when coupled with the "C" body style, conveys the sound of fingerstyle playing very well. That is to say it has very pronounced low mids and sparkly highs. The back and sides are of laminated ovankol which is a species of tree similar to mahogany, but with a rich distinctive figure. Even in matte finish it is a beautiful guitar to look at and the finish serves to help the acoustic volume and projection as well. My guitar was very well put together with neat joinery inside and out. The action was initially high, which is why I used it for low C, however my technician adjusted the relief and saddle hieght to better accomodate standard tuning. (A process pretty much standard for most factory guitars.) My other guitars are Japanese factory Takamine and have great systems for plugging in. My guitar was equipped with a Breedlove-branded system which appears to have been supplied by B-band. I found this system to be a little less "balsy" as those Takamine systems, but what it is is a pleasant surprise. It comes with a tuner which grabs and holds notes well and has this remarkable brightly backlit, lcd, needle-style tuner display that mutes the output when on. That rocks! Other nice appointments include a pinless bridge, a synthetic nut and compensated saddle (I think Corian.)and small-but-pearly acryllic position marker inlays. I did not like the string spacing on this guitar. Nut width is 1 11/16" and, as a fingerstylist, prefer a 1 3/4", but I've learned to adapt. In fact, this is one of the reasons I went back to standard tuning with it, so as to help with the barring, etc. I also didn't like the 24 3/4" scale length, but, again, in standard tuning intonation hasn't been much of a problem. I love cedar-topped guitars in general and it is hard to find quality like this at this price point.
