 Outstanding guitar Jan 06, 2012

After six months, I'm finally getting around to posting a review. This is the best sounding acoustic guitar I've owned(from about 20). You can search out and read about some of the features built into these guitars. I think the graduated top thickness, the JDL bridge truss, and the pinless bridge all work together to make these guitars sound so great. It does have a smaller body size, but unlike most smaller guitars, it retains a deep body. More space inside the guitar equals more sound coming out. Some smaller guitars sound thin. Not this one! There are some excellent clips on YouTube if you want some idea of the deep, warm, almost mezmerizing tone from this guitar. I bought it mainly for playing fingerstyle, but it easily handles moderate strumming and I have been playing it much more than I originally thought I would.
The overall quality is just impressive. The top is from a giant sequoia redwood. It is against the law to harvest them, so the wood can only come from trees that naturally fall or are salvaged from river bottoms. There is a lot of competition between guitar builders to get redwood, and it is reflected in the pricing. Upgrading from a more common spruce top to a redwood top is at least $500 extra, and you might not get one as nice as the redwood Breedlove is using. The East Indian rosewood that Breedlove uses for their Master Class series is what is considered "master class" or AAA grade wood. The grain on mine is just beautiful, very dark with hints of orange and purple shades. A lot of the East Indian rosewood being used today is a lighter shade and doesn't look as nice. These Gotohs are the best closed back tuners I've ever used. A lot of high end luthiers install these on their own hand built guitars. Natural bone nut and saddle are also features included only on higher end guitars.
Breedlove as a company probably lost some credibility when they started having their lower end series of guitars built overseas. But Breedlove USA built guitars have always been some of the best guitars made.
I wasn't too sure about buying a high end guitar like this from Amazon, but I was very happy to see that the instrument delivered to me was in a factory sealed box, and it was in Amazon's inventory for less than a month (based upon the date on the Certificate of Authenticity).

I couldn't resist the beauty of this guitar with it's redwood top and unique Breedlove accents. Craftmanship is excellent. I somewhat agree with the other review on the sound, but I have only been playing it for 3 days and I'm sure it hasn't even begun to open up. I think with some time and playing this guitar will continue to sound better. If not, it may be going back. My only initial dislike is the electronics. I have a dual element B-Band on my Seagull S6 and it sounds amazing. If I feel confident that I intend to keep this instrument, I am going to change out the electronics where I can blend the piezo and the mic. I keep it at about 75% piezo 25% mic on my Gull and it is perfect.

I just recently took back this guitar to guitarcenter. first the craftsmanship is top notch, every piece of this guitar ozes quality. The sound however was just, ok. now to start off, cedar has a more warm sound than a solid spruce top but this guitar excelled at mediocrity in the sound department. I truly wanted to love this guitar and i kept it for 29 days, at 30 i had to return it to the store or miss my return window.
One bright spot with the sound was plugged in. This was a beast plugged in, the LL baggs dual element pickups are hands down the best out there. alas, this was not enough reason to keep the guitar. I took it back and picked up a martin dreadnought cutaway, happy camper i am now. If there was this breedlove focus with a spruce top available at guitarcenter then i would have bought it without a seconds hesitation as these breedloves are truly works of art.
