I've used the passive version of this for years. Loved the sound, hated the lack of gain. This active version is just wonderful. Got GAIN? This does... and the volume control on the side is wonderful. The sound is fantastic and revealing... if your guitar sucks, this will reveal it. If your guitar has great harmonics, this will showcase it. I've discovered that if you mount it "turned around" at the BACK of the soundhole (you have to swap around some of the pole pieces -- super easy to do) you keep the great sound, and you get it out of the way of your pick. Try it. This installation trick also puts the volume control up-top where it's easy to reach. Do I like it? I've got 2 in 2 guitars, and I'll soon put another 2 in two more guitars.

Easy to install with options to make it more of a permanent install if desired .... LR Baggs has a very good reputation for quality ... like the active aspect of the pickup and the easy to use, but non intrusive, volume control ... like the ability to easily adjust the response to each string (if you need it) ... the only thing I don't prefer is the cream color but that is a minor thing ...
Sound is great with no feedback ... good value; good quality ... stacks up well against the competition in this price point ...

This pickup works amazingly. I have used it for almost 7 years and never had a problem with it. It always transfers a very clear sound and warm tone. It does make some noise if you hit it, but I occasionally use this "con" to my advantage and strike it to punctuate my playing. Due to the type of pickup you can expect some string noise as you play, it is just that sensitive, but it is well worth it for the awesome tone you get. I have gigged with this and I can always rely on it working just like it is supposed to. You will probably want to have it professionally installed, because you have to file/drill a hole in the back of the guitar (replacing the strap peg) to run the wire. If you ever do need to take the pickup off your guitar to change the batteries or other maintenance, it is very easy and simple to remove and replace. Be careful not to over tighten the screws when putting the pickup back on the soundhole, you can chip or crack the wood by doing so. I use this pickup on my Martin DM, and it is especially suited for the warm thick tone produced by a large body maple dreadnought acoustic. You can't go wrong with this piece of equipment.

This is a great pickup. I started out with the M1 passive version and loved it, but I liked the idea of having a preamp and volume control so I bought the M1 active version. It's simple to install and reproduces your guitar's natural acoustic sound beautifully. I liked it so much I bought a second one for another guitar. I'm running it through a Fender Acoustisonic Jr. amp, which is a great amp for acoustic guitar.

I bought LR Baggs M1 active a month ago and its amazing!I have exactly the original sound of my Takamine!Very easy to install and its ready for jammin!I love the small volume knob!10 out of 10!
