5Great product!  Apr 16, 2012 By BoiseStateGrad
For starters, I had the LR Baggs iBeam installed in an acoustic Seagull guitar.

At first, I was a little skeptical of buying this pickup. Fortunately there were just enough positive reviews for me to decide to buy it. I am glad I did. The installation was very easy. About an hour max if the professional installer knows what he is doing. The sound quality is great. I haven't experienced any feedback (as some reviews said there was a little) and I play in a worship band with a backup guitarist, drummer, bassist, keyboard, three singers etc. The whole nine yards. I love this pickup and I have seriously considered replacing the pickup in my Dean with the LR Baggs iBeam as well. I have received so many positive comments about how much better I sound when I play, and I have only had it installed about a month! Of course, it's not me that sounds better; it's the guitar.

5Excellent for Beginners, pros, and especially touring.  Oct 25, 2011 By This Guy 2100 "Lank"
I bought one of these installed at a Music shop for about $170. I have to say it's great. I put it in my Martin 12 String (an X series), and was super-pleased with it.

As with any active or passive system, you'll need an EQ pedal if you want ideal sound, but they come cheap.

But I have to explain why I like this so much...here it goes.

I had it installed, and it worked great. Then my guitar took a nasty spill. The iBeam system was intact, but the guitar was DOA.

I salvaged the system, and it sat in a ziplock bag for over a year. Finally I bought a new guitar when I started playing out more.

I had to play a last minute show, and it was acoustic. I hadn't yet installed the iBeam system. Now was the time.

Since I had to do it in a pinch, I installed it with electrical tape (I didn't have the proper adhesives on me - LR Baggs does include enough for 2-3 installations).

Despite the gig being outside, everything held and sounded great! The next week, I installed the system properly and it hasn't moved since (this was 3 years ago).

Most Fishman pickups are passive, so you need an external preamp. Why bother when you can get an active system, really?

I also watched Dave Grohl smash his acoustic at a Foo Fighters show. I talked with the audience member who got the wrecked guitar, and inside was an LR Baggs Active iBeam system.

I highly recommend this. It hasn't led me astray after 3 years of gigging on one guitar and another year with another.

5LR Baggs iBeam Incredibly natural  Jun 10, 2011 By Oliveoil
I just received the LR Baggs iBeam Active Accoustic Pickup with the volume control. I went to my luthier, he says that it was a good choice for my flattop Eastman AC712, he did a very good job ( caution : the pikup positioning is really changing the sound/tone). Then I could start testing it on my AER Accoustic Amp... and it is georgous, it sound like none of the pick up I ever heard. I have some very good BBand undersaddle system with preamp and an the EQ on another guitar, but even if it's sound good, it is night and day. The iBeam is very close to what you could have with a good mike in the front of your guitar ! Also as I have a percusive playing style it is great because the iBeam is (unlike undersaddle system)taking the sound of anything happening on the instrument, to the noise of your finger on the strings to the perc on the body..great, easy to use, good output level. I will add it a Para DI box to "sculpt" the sound and to gain few db that's all. Great product.

4Pretty decent with the right pre-amp  Jun 01, 2011 By Carl Caldwell
I already own an Anthem pickup, so I was ready to be dissappointed. However, with the right pre-amp this pickup does very well. It does tend to amplify all the body noise, and it is very sensitive to the placement of the element, but all in all it is a decent mid-priced pickup for an acoustic guitar.

5LR Baggs i Beam  May 21, 2011 By Scott Pursley
I've been playing acoustic guitar for 40 years. I've tried every conceivable combination

For my money there is nothing as consistently good at reproducing the sound of an acoustic guitar as the LR Baggs I Beam.

I have three acoustics all with the I Beam. Can't beat it.
