4The Little Box the Could - good value but, with some caveats.  May 27, 2011 By GP
If you are one of those that likes to hear the final though right away I will say that this EFX processor is well worth the money. If you are picky about reverb and compression and/or play a nylon string guitar, read on.

The unit well designed, well built, easy on the eyes and VERY easy to use. I only had to read the manual to 'decode' the alphanumeric symbol on the two digit screen. And LCD screen would eliminate that issue. ALl controls are well laid out and very intuitive. It even has 3 knobs assigned to quick adj. settings such as TONE, EFX LVL and Master LVL on-they fly, while in PLAY mode. Nice feature.

I bought this primarily to use with my nylon string guitars. As such I was looking for a good compressor, limiter and reverb. Unfortunately, the unit is mediocre for all three. I would have preferred that they had concentrated the processing power on fewer effects rather than trying to throw a bunch of stuff in that is rarely used with acoustic guitars, the intended purpose of this box. The compressor and limiter are NOT concurrently available, a big caveat when playing live. In addition the controls are VERY limited: only Sensitivity, Attack and Level for the COMP, and Threshold, Ratio and Level for the Limiter. Furthermore, the Attack and Ratio don't really use real world values (such as ms or 2:1, 3:1, etc... They use a number for 00-10 instead. If you are used to operating 'real' unit this is an issue as you can't set to defined values.

The Reverb is surprisingly 'mushy', washed out and bland. Considering that digital reverb has been around for a long time, I would have expected a nicer sounding reverb. Like the other effects, there are only 3 parameters: Decay, Tone and MIX - one of the reverb substitutes PRE-DELAY for the TONE. I find all the reverbs to be lacking and disappointing. You can tweak them enough to make them playable, especially if you also use a DELAY prior to the Reverb.

The EQ is decent and the frequencies work reasonably well on a Nylon string guitar. I have found that the best setting for the model is the GR - any other setting will make your classical guitar sound like a Telecaster :)

The feedback suppressor actually works well. I use mine with an external switch. The tuner is also very useful as is the assignable expression pedal. I use mine for Volume mostly but, it's very easy to assign it to any other function by simply looking at the LED light.

Nice XLR out with pre/post switch! This works along with the 1/4 in. out so, in essence you have two outs.

The layout is very intuitive and if you are used to programming efx pedals you'll have this up and running in a minute. No problems.

All in all a very good value but, if you are expecting a good sounding reverb and/or comp and limiter be prepared for compromising a little.

5Like being 14 again, but this time I can actually play guitar!  Jan 28, 2012 By Corey Fischer
My Zoom A2.1u arrived yesterday, but I wasn't able to try it out until this morning. I ran it through all 40 preset patches, playing my Eastman AC240CE and listening via headphones. It's my first effects pedal for guitar. And the Eastman is my first acoustic electric, having played traditional Martins for about 50 years! (I'm a folk-geezer from the sixties -- OK, the fifties...)

I was, frankly, amazed. The unit is a lot easier to use than it looks. I'd been apprehensive about the myriad possibilities, the several functions shared by each button and knob, but after a quick read of the relevant pages of the well-written manual, I was able to switch banks and patches, change parameters with knobs and foot pedal, use the rhythm tracks, and have serious fun for two hours. Could have kept going, but my body was demanding actual food, not only the "food of love." Some of the patches inspired me to make up new progressions and riffs as well as play old tunes in new ways. This has already bumped my motivation to practice way up! I enthusiastically recommend the A2.1u for acoustic-electirc players. Can't speak to its use as a guitar interface for DAW use, but will soon try recording. This days I use Logic Express mostly. I'll report back when I learn more.

5Amazingly Flexible !!!!  Oct 30, 2010 By Fabian 3D
I bought this one month ago, and this already has covered all my needs in acoustics effects.
I use it with a takamine guitar, that has a very rich sound, and with the effects processor i can record even the slight touch to the strings.
The effects are very natural, they give chorus modulation among others, giving me a very large set of options to play with, but it doesnt sound like an electric guitar, something is very important for me.

I bought it with Zoom FS01 Footswitch , because it is very useful for feedback supressor when i play on stage, and other functions i am discovering.

I can record to the computer with the usb even in linux systems !!!
I would recommend this to somebody who wants a clean and acoustic sound for an acoustic guitar, no more or less.

5Very versitile - great effects for acoustic.  Oct 05, 2010 By CSA68 "CSA68"
Besides producing a variety of great effects. This unit is very sturdy and has all the connecitons you could possibly want for live performance or recording. You will need to read the directions as the unit supports several modes and options. I am using this with Sonar 8 and it works great. The support website has Windows 64 bit drivers that installed without any problems. I highly recommend this item.

4Great pedal!!  Dec 26, 2008 By HeinerVG
This is my first effects pedal and I love it, a excellent set of effects, a lot of possibilities and an excellent sound.

The only problem that I have is that is very sensitive, for example if I want to change from one preset to another I have to do it fast because if I press one of the buttons may be that I will change to more presets than the one that I want.

Also, this pedal is extremely fast, only 8ms per preset change so if you want a fast pedal with very good sound don't wait to find another one like this.

I love it and I know that your guitar will love too ;)
